I flew on the inaugural Virgin flight from LA to Seattle earlier this year and I also enjoyed the presentation from the back of the chair in front of me. Perhaps airlines should consider changing it up a bit to keep people interested.

Great lessons, and JetBlue offered a similar surprise, although they did it live, with clever copy, great personality in the attendants, and a load of bonding as they had us fill in the blanks on what they were saying -- a good post on rethinking the standard to stick out. Thanks!

I appreciated your article on Virgin Atlantic's new approach to the usual safety announcement. It is a great way to alert the audience (passengers) to the message. As an educator, I would offer an additional consideration. Perhaps the reason so many tune-out the instructions is because many people can recite them by heart. I do not think passengers zoning out is out of negligence; it is often because they know the material. Airlines should can be assured that nervous first-time passengers DO pay attention.
