Great post! Thanks!

I'm an architect specialising in school design. It's amazing how many people think they know about design and construction because they have had their house extended. While it's important as a designer to understand what clients and other interested parties want to get out of a project, it is equally important to let the professionals do the job they specialise in.

The post truly deserves a standing ovation! It drives home the point in a very interesting way.

Like Miguel.M stated, most times even when I know exactly what to do and how to do it, I prefer to call the real pros... the difference is always clear at the end of the day.

Even if it costs an arm and a leg, at the end of the day its worth it because I get value for money and everyone is satisfied. 'Don't be penny wise and pound foolish' is what we say in my country.

Great post Doug, thanks.

Clap, clap, clap...
Doug, my absolute applause!
Let me take a bit of your time...
I've been around, professionaly, for the last 30 years. Started as a "barely bearded" young
drawing skilled illustrator, entered the real world through ehxibition stands design, became an advertising creative and a couple of years later decided to assume as communications/graphic designer. Among some other tasks, was frequently asked to develop presentation materials (I already knew how to tell a story in 20 seconds TV ad, it was easy to learn how to tell a story in a 20 minutes presentation). Drawing, paste-up text and photos, and copy to transparencies or photograph into 35 mm slides was the visual technique. One day, by 1989, grabbed a Commodore Amiga 2000 and became a
(maybe one of the first in the world?) multimedia presentations designer and producer, it also made me extend my skills into audiovisual events production.
That's where I've been for this last 20 years!
Through this 30 years journey, watching pros,
I learned studio photography technics, sound & video editing and production.
As a joke, sometimes use to say that I am
"overqualified" LOL.
Among the usual graphic design studio paraphernalia, I have a small photo studio, and a workstation dedicated to sound & video editing. I use them for small exigence productions.
BUT... when it cames to real pro exigent productions - illustration, exhibitions, photo, audio or video - even though I know exactly how to do it, and sometimes could even do it, I know it's time to call the real PROS...
That's not lightly that, in Portugal, we use to say:
"Each monkey on it's tree branch!"
