Darn Good Design at the HOW Design Conference

how5

Imagine my delight to be speaking at the HOW Conference in Austin. It means a lot to me because until Duarte had not been recognized as “viable” by the design community because we developed and designed presentations (which were until now an undesirable communication medium).

The HOW Design Conference in Austin, Texas, June 24-27-will be swarming with inspirational talented designers where the masses get creatively rejuvenated.

Hope you can come!

The program can be tailored to fit your needs by choosing from more than 60 sessions on: getting the most out of your software, from Photoshop and InDesign to After Effects and Flash finding inspiration and transforming it into creative design solutions negotiating like a pro to get what you want at work and more They also have daily and individual session options available.

See you in Austin!

So true about the design world snubbing the presentation medium! Yet presentations is where a company can REALLY differentiate itself. Let’s face it, the vast majority of corporate marketing materials look professional, but survey the companies presenting at a big conference and most presentations still look awful. Not as marked a difference as a few years ago, but a slide:ology-type presentation is still a real competitive advantage today. One other anecdote: Clients will occasionally give us a PowerPoint template to work with that was created by some big recognized ad agency as part of their new brand rollout. Often, it’s little more than a Photoshop background–no color palette, default graph settings, etc.–obviously they knew nothing about PowerPoint! :-D

SO TRUE! We deal with templates like that all the time. It’s sad because people are expected to use the template pervasively in all they present and yet it’s not a true tool to help the user best represent the brand!

I’m signed up for your session, but I’m coming at it from a different angle. I’m a Sr. Network Engineer for a major Telecom company that’s looking to find better ways to share ideas with others. I’ve spent so long flexing the technical side of my brain, I’m looking to spark life into the artistic side.

I look forward to the session and would love to get the chance to meet you in person, Nancy.
