slide:ology Wins Axiom Business Book Award Gold Medal

Nancy just received her bright and shiny gold medal with the words “Success Through Knowledge.” I couldn’t think of a more appropriate phrase to recognize the passion for sharing knowledge that slide:ology represents.  We’ve debated internally about sharing this kind of news with our community because to be quite frank it sometimes feels a little self serving. So what we’d really like to know from our community is how you view awards.  Creative agencies love awards but each year at Duarte we go through the categories and try to find one for presentations and find ourselves feeling a little discouraged and left out.  Here are the two questions we would like to hear your thoughts on…

Re your self serving comment: its good to tell us about awards, it means we have backed the right horse and increases our trust in you and your credibility. You might like to describe what this means for you and in turn how this will help your community.

Thanks Justin for your comment and great suggestion. I guess for us the book award signifies a seat at the business table for presentations. In turn this will benefit our community of practioners in elevating the recognition that those who design presentations are delivering a highly valued skill to the business community.

My personal belief awards are a nice affirmation, but it is essentially more competition. Competiton to me implies I am a winner and the rest of you are losers. Do we need more of that in life? My vote is for less competition and more cooperation. Not just in the design community but all communities.
