Nancy’s Talk from TEDxEast: You Can Change the World

   |    Nancy Duarte

Earlier this week, we shared the lessons we learned while trying to get a talk to fit into 18 teeny tiny minutes, now take a look at the talk that taught us.

This talk reveals the hidden structure that the greatest communicators and persuaders have used over thousands of years. Insights from literature and cinema helped reveal why the greatest communicators are riveting.

    Thank you Brooke!

    Nancy
Really motivating speech. Really liked the end when you talked about the future being a place we get to make rather than get to go.
I have to speak to my team tomorrow and this really inspired me. I need them to be positive in difficult times. I’m going to look at my presentation again to see if i can apply some of the techniques and principles you outlined.
    Many thanks

Great speech. Only thing I would change (or rather add) is pause here and there. Speech is quite fast (and trust me I understand stress, time limit etc. :). Other than that – perfect and thanks for this presentation schema :)

Wonderful talk Nancy…thank you. By the way, I’ve sent you several tweets but haven’t heard any reply sadly. Do you plan on having your books on kindle/ibook versions?

    Hi Saleh,
That’s odd, I try to reply to all questions asked on Twitter. My books are both available as PDFs on the publisher’s sites. Slide:ology is avail on oreilly.com and Resonate is available on Wiley.com

I discovered this talk (and you) via a referral on Twitter. I’ve watched this video 3 times and keep learning new stuff. I just started reading “Resonate” and am excited about how it will improve my own communication. Thanks!

Nancy, I’ve read both books and have heard a lot about you, but this was the first opportunity I’ve had to watch you present.  Wow, you’re genuinely great!  No doubt that you’re a gifted communicator – but that was readily apparent even before I watched this.  What resonated with me was your transparency and vulnerability in those brief moments in which you shared about your childhood and upbringing.  This made me appreciate you as a person even more.  You’re doing amazing things to move this niche forward and I feel so excited to be a part of where it’s headed.  I hope to have the opportunity to meet you at some point in the future.

PS – John Ortberg was one of the pastors at my church I grew up at.  First Baptist Church of La Crescenta.  It was cool to come across the write-up on his presentation techniques in your book.

    Thanks!

    Scott

Hi Scott, I loved your note, thanks for posting it. Pastor Ortberg is amazing!

I’m a youth pastor and I have to communicate every week to teenagers. Do you have any tips on keeping their attention better? I’ve read Communicating For A Change by Andy Stanley, and it helped me out a ton. I just feel that there’s more to learn.

Also, is Resonate and Slide:ology available for Kindle?
